Encoder technology is a powerful tool for continuous measurement of physical property or control of motion. AR18-S01 encoder units exist as a highly precise absolute magnetic encoder technology. This technology is most suited for demanding continuous motion control applications in highly dynamic environments.
These linear encoders create a linear series of ‘‘bursts’’ as they move. Each of these bursts contains multiple bits of information, which allow for detailed and precise position and speed readings. Linear encoders typically use absolute or relative encoding systems, depending on the application.
Absolute encoding – As the unit moves, each element of motion sends a burst which contains multiple bits of information. Each uniform element of motion sends a unique burst sequence which can then be converted into an absolute value on the machine’s axes.
Relative encoding – In this method, each element of motion also sends a burst with multiple bits of information, but instead of each burst containing absolute information, it is relative to the other bursts. This means that rather than sending absolute positional information, the encoder sends positional changes.
AR18-S01 absolute encoders are designed to measure linear motion in harsh environments. They come with robust hardware and sophisticated software, providing reliable performance while maintaining a very high level of accuracy. They support a wide range of sensing technologies, including magnetostrictive, capacitive, inductive, and optical. These encoders have a resolution from 0.001mm/tick, +/- 25 nanometer linear accuracy, and maximum speeds of 20m/sec.
The AR18-S01 encoder works using four main components: the signal-to-noise ratio, the antenna, the cylinder, and the magnet. The antenna is the main component of the encoder, as it transmits the radio signals with information that is used to determine the position and speed. The cylinder is the element that is to be measured and contains the magnet. The signal-to-noise ratio measures the strength of the signal from the antenna to the cylinder, allowing the encoder to measure and provide accurate readings. Lastly, the magnet is part of the cylinder and creates a field variation that is read by the antenna.
The AR18-S01 encoder works by emitting a signal from the antenna, which is charged with a specific radio frequency. The magnet inside the cylinder creates a field variation which is sensed by the antenna. The signal is then processed and sent to the signal-to-noise ratio which measures the strength of the signal, allowing the encoder to calculate the position of the cylinder. This information is then sent to the machine which uses it to control the movement of the cylinder.
