AS2523 is a standard designed to provide a connection between a master card and a slave card or other elements and between two interconnected modules or circuits. It is a high-speed interface that operates over ribbon cable and is compatible with alternative systems and other common systems. The primary application of AS2523 is for the transmission of digital information (e.g. voice, fax, CB data, internet data) across a physical layer such as copper or fiber optic cable.AS2523 consists of three main components: the data link layer protocol (which is responsible for the connection of systems and transports information packets), the physical layer (which provides the physical connection between two nodes of the network and provides data transmission speed), and the media access control (MAC) sublayer (which allows multiple systems to access the physical layer).The data link layer protocol (DLLP) establishes the connection between two networks by providing error detection and correction and fragmentation/reassembly of packets. The DLLP also includes protocol fields such as address and control information, as well as quality of service (QoS) parameters.The physical layer (PHY) is responsible for the transmission of data between communicating systems. This layer provides the physical link between two nodes, supporting the transmission of data packets and frames. The physical layer establishes and maintains links to neighbor nodes, performs data encoding/decoding and clock synchronization. Moreover, it provides quality of service (QoS) measures, so that communication is guaranteed in an efficient way.The media access control (MAC) sublayer provides media access control functions such as address recognition, randomize access/broadcasting, priority, and flow control.
