The AS7620EB (Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS) is a complete power system solution designed to provide a proper platform for evaluating power management applications that use high efficiency, wide-range frequency operation buck, boost, or buck-boost converters.The AS7620EB is supplied with a comprehensive design suite including schematic diagrams, gerbers, application notes, and source code samples. In addition, the user has the ability to easily resize or modify the converter design according to their project’s specific requirements.The AS7620EB is designed to support both linear and switch mode power converters utilizing wide range input and output voltages. The converter design can be configured to meet the user’s design specifications including output current, output voltage, switching frequency, and power level. For example, the AS7620EB can be used to design single- or dual output converters with the output voltage up to 100V and output current up to 25A. The AS7620EB also features over current, over temperature, and voltage protection to prevent run-away conditions.The AS7620EB uses a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to control and monitor the switching frequency, line voltage, and output current level. The FPGA is programmed with special firmware that is constantly monitored to ensure the power system is operating at an optimum level. The AS7620EB also contains various other protected components such as a voltage regulator or a current sense amplifier that are used to detect over current or over voltage conditions.The AS7620EB can be used to design both open-frame and enclosed converters. The user can select the appropriate design for their application, such as an off-line or on-line solution, according to their needs. For an off-line solution, the user can choose either the open-frame or enclosed configuration.The AS7620EB supports a variety of control methods that allow users to optimize the power performance. These include single cycle control, pulse width modulation (PWM) control, and hysteretic control.
