It provides excellent power efficiency up to 92% with wide input range and temperature range from -40° C to 125° C. Maximum continuous output of the ASA00B48-LS is 240W, with output voltage accuracy of 1%, a high surge power up to 280W, and 0.2% line regulation. The ASA00B48-LS also includes a built-in EMI filter and protection features for short circuit protection, over temperature protection, soft start and current limiting. The ASA00B48-LS uses buck–boost conversion technolgy, which is an ingenious method of using a switching converter to provide a boost instead of a single converter. The main components of this converter are two high frequency, high current switches, a transformer, an inductor and a storage capacitor. The switches alternately turn on and off, and the inductor and capacitor are connected in series with the input voltage to form a “buck-boost” converter.When the switch S1 is on and S2 is off, the voltage across the inductor is equal to the peak input voltage, and the current through the inductor increases, storing energy in it.When the switch S2 is now turned on, it is as if a flyback converter was working, drawing energy from the inductor and boosting the voltage. This is the boost mode. When the switch S2 is on, the voltage across the inductor is less than the peak input voltage, and the current through the inductor decreases, releasing energy to the output and the load.After this, the cycle is repeated again for the same input voltage. In the process the output voltage can be controlled by varying the on–off ratio of the switches, creating either a boost or buck effect. This allows the converter to regulate the output voltage, but also limits the maximum current that can be supplied by the converter. The ASA00B48-LS uses synchronous rectification, which also helps to increase the efficiency of the converter. It works by rectifying the output of a full-wave bridge rectifier on the secondary side of the converter. By using a rectifier, the converter can get around 90% efficiency as opposed to a converter with only one rectifier, which can only get around 70% efficiency. Synchronous rectification also helps to reduce the switching losses of the converter and helps to reduce the overall size of the converter.
