The AST3TQ-40.000MHZ-5 oscillator is based on a Pierce oscillator topology, where an active device (either a transistor or a FET) is connected in a negative feedback loop. The feedback loop is constructed by connecting the collector of the transistor to the inverting input of the amplifier. The negative feedback configuration improves the device’s stability and results in improved transient performance.
