AT27C080-12TI is a 8K-bit, low-power Non-volatile CMOS Memory utilizing advanced CMOS technology. It offers a variety of features: high-speed program/erase, low-power consumption, wide operating voltage and temperature ranges, which make it a popular choice for applications in the embedded systems, and industrial control markets.This memory is based on 16-bit technology, which allows it to be organized into 1024 words of 8 bits each. The 16-bit architecture also makes the AT27C080-12TI more efficient than other members of the family, since all data operations take place in 16-bit words instead of 8-bit bytes.To read content from the AT27C080-12TI memory, the Read Mode Register (RMR) is used. After the read operation is initiated, the desired data is transferred from the input/output (I/O) pins of the device at speeds of up to 33 MHz. To write content to the memory, the Write Mode Register (WMR) is used. Data is transferred using the same I/O pins as the read operation, but at a speed of up to 15 MHz.The AT27C080-12TI also includes two 8-bit write registers, the Data Register and the Address Register. These two registers play an important role in the programming/erase cycle. When the device is in the program/erase mode, data can be transferred to the Data Register, which is then written to the memory address indicated by the Address Register.In the AT27C080-12TI, the write register is used to read data from the memory. Once the data has been loaded, it is written to the device. To program/erase memory blocks, the Erase/Write Bit Register (EWBR) is used. This register is responsible for initiating the program/erase operations by setting the Erase/Write (E/W) bit to its "on" state.The AT27C080-12TI also supports the implementation of a password protection mechanism, which can only be enabled/disabled by software. When the password mechanism is enabled, the protected memory blocks can only be read/erased by supplying the correct password.In terms of its application field, the AT27C080-12TI is best suited for embedded systems that require non-volatile memory, such as embedded controllers and motor controllers.
