The AT49BV002-12VC Memory is a non-volatile memory type device provided by Atmel Corporation. Working Principle
The AT49BV002-12VC Memory uses the ferroelectric RAM (FRAM) technology. This particular device is comprised of 256K by 8 bits of memory, 16K words x 8 bits. It is organized as four 64K by 8-bit buffers, each containing bytes that can be accessed with a single read/write cycle. This makes the memory device very attractive to many applications that requires high-speed operation. The device also contains an internal 32-Kbit EEPROM, allowing users to store information even when the power is turned off.
The device utilizes a three-wire serial interface for data entry and data output. It includes instruction, address and data bits. The instruction instructs the memory device on what operations to do, the address selects one specific memory and the data bits contain the characters that has to be read or written. The device can be operated using two operating modes, the command/addressed mode and the streaming mode.
In the command/addressed mode, users must enter the instruction prior to entering the address. An instruction is followed by the word address and it is subsequently used as a pointer to a particular memory word. Subsequent instructions shall continue to be written in this mode. In the streaming mode, data can be written and read with only the Byte/Word write and read instructions. This mode is useful when programming or reading the memory with consecutive data.
The device uses a bypass register to transfer data between the write and read input pins. When the instruction bits are equal to the "write page to buffer" command, the page data is being sent to the internal buffer and can be rewritten several times before being written to the internal memory array. This is useful when writing large blocks of data.
The internal EEPROM cells are divided into 32 sectors and can be programmed and read byte by byte. The programming and erasing of the EEPROM can be done using the write and erase byte instruction. The device also includes a security feature to protect against unauthorized use. It includes a write Protection bit which can be used to protect all data on the memory.
