The AT83C24B-TISUL is a member of the Atmel family of mixed signal integrated circuits for embedded control application. It consists of an 8-bit AVR-base microcontroller core along with interfacing subsystems, allowing it to integrate a wide range of hardware functions into a single integrated circuit. The AT83C24B-TISUL also includes Atmel’s patented EMC-safe protocol, which ensures reliable communication between the microcontroller and surrounding components.
The target applications of the AT83C24B-TISUL are motor control, brushless DC motor control, h-bridge motor control, pulse width modulation (PWM) motor control, QuasiResonant power control, capacitive touch sensing, and HID keyboard applications. It is well suited for applications where low cost and low power consumption are important considerations.
Working principle
The AT83C24B-TISUL is basically a three-phase boost chopper based on Atmel’s Atmel AVR 32-bit microcontroller core. It includes four internal clock sources, two power-on reset sources, single-wire programming interface, and up to four external interrupts. Each of the three functional blocks (controller, inputs, and outputs) of the AT83C24B-TISUL are connected together using a sophisticated communication interface that enables dynamic data exchange between the blocks. The four internal clock sources are used to generate the system time base, control the output of the controller module, synchronize the switching of the outputs and inputs, and provide accurate clock pulses for synchronous data exchange.
The AT83C24B-TISUL also includes a power-on reset (POR) circuit, which is responsible for ensuring that the microcontroller starts from a known state when powered up. The POR circuit ensures that the processor is reset after a certain amount of time in the case of a power failure. The external interrupts, which can be triggered by sources external to the microcontroller, are also monitored by the POR circuit. Other features include a watchdog timer, which can be used to monitor the system and reset the processor in case of malfunction, and a single-wire programming interface, which allows the user to program the microcontroller without having to remove it from the system.
The AT83C24B-TISUL is capable of operating in two modes: continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). In CCM, the switching of the outputs is performed according to a fixed frequency, and the controller module generates the necessary waveforms to ensure that the switching is synchronized with the system timebase. In DCM, the controller module adjusts the timebase and the waveform accordingly, allowing for the switching of the outputs to be dynamically adjusted in response to the changing requirements of the system.
The AT83C24B-TISUL also features a number of peripheral features, including capacitive touch sensing, HID keyboard input, low voltage and low off-state power consumption modes, and a number of system protection features. All of these features make the AT83C24B-TISUL a highly-capable and efficient motor control solution.
