AT97SC3205T-U3A1610B is a highly advanced SoC that can be used in many different applications, including but not limited to: specific industrial control, medical products and instruments, point-of-sale systems, automotive instrument panels, home appliances, and networking/telecommunications. The device provides a wide range of features and functions, including a 32-bit processor, ECC-protected Flash memory, peripheral connectivity and numerous analog interfaces.
Thanks to the 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 processor, AT97SC3205T-U3A1610B lets you get creative when developing your design. Access to 8KBytes of SRAM, up to 768KBytes of storage and DMA give you plenty of freedom for prototyping your application or creating a product or system. The processor core supports 32/16/8/4-bit operations, as well as 16-bit floating-point operations, allowing you to create sophisticated hardware solutions.
The device also includes a wide variety of peripheral interfaces, allowing you to easily connect to external hardware. It supports up to two UARTs, two I2C buses, one SPI interface and up to fourteen general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins for connecting to specific industrial control devices or communications peripherals. It also features an Ethernet MAC and an integrated USB 1.1 host controller, making it ideal for networking and communications applications.
Finally, the device also integrates a variety of analog functions and interfaces, including an 8-channel 10-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter and four pulse counter/timers. Working principle
The AT97SC3205T-U3A1610B works in the same way as any other microcontroller. It is composed of an 8-core 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 processor, ECC-protected Flash memory, peripheral connectivity and numerous analog interfaces, all connected to a power supply. As the user program is fed into the Flash memory, the microcontroller reads the instructions and performs the corresponding actions.
The processor starts up by executing a reset handler, which sets up the processor to a known state and loads the program from the Flash memory. Similarly, after the processor has completed processing a given instruction, it extracts the next instruction from the Flash memory and moves through the instructions until it reaches the end of the program.
The instructions executed by the processor can affect external hardware in several ways, depending on their purpose. For example, an instruction might tell the processor to output data to a pin to control an external device, or to read data from an external sensor and store it in the processor’s memory. In both cases, the instruction causes the processor to send or receive data via its peripheral interfaces, making the hardware respond accordingly.
The processor may also need to communicate with other hardware or software via an internal or external bus. The processor may receive and decode data from memory, from external devices, from other processors or from a communication interface. Using its internal peripheral connectivity, the processor can transfer data between its own memory and other devices, thereby enabling communication.
Finally, the processor can also take advantage of the internal tensioners and timers provided by the SoC, enabling it to take well-timed actions or count specific events.
