The ATA6838C-PXQW-1 is an integrated, three-phase, gate driver and controller module from Atmel that features a microcontroller, low voltage MOSFET gate drivers, device controller, current sensing and diagnostics functions all integrated on a single package. This module is designed to drive the three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) in a wide variety of automotive and industrial applications, such as power tools, pump systems, solar and windpower systems, electric vehicles and robot applications.
The ATA6838C-PXQW-1 has a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C and meets all requirements dictated by automotive applications, including wide voltage supplies and high junction temperatures. It provides a high-voltage field-effect transistor (FET) driver with a built-in level shifting feature to overcome the voltage barriers between low and high voltage FETs, allowing it to drive FETs at up to 55V. The output drivers can be configured easily by external resistors. It also includes a charge pump, a 17V Zener diode, a comparator and an on-chip baud-rate generator that allow the device to enter low power modes such as stand-by or sleep.
This device also offers a power-saving state machine with five operating modes that can automatically reduce the operating frequency as required. This feature allows the controller to reduce the power consumption and enhance the overall efficiency of the system. Additionally, it has a wide range of interlock and safety features, such as over-temperature protection, over-voltage protection, current sensing and fault management, that limit the stress on the device and help to ensure the system is reliable and safe.
The ATA6838C-PXQW-1 also includes two ultra-low-fall-time gate drivers that offer a maximum switching frequency of up to 150kHz, ensuring fast gate switching times and higher efficiency. In addition, it has fast rise and fall times, supporting a wide range of applications, including those which require high switching frequencies. The ATA6838C-PXQW-1 also includes an adjustable under-voltage lockout (UVLO) feature that prevents it from working when the input voltage is too low.
The ATA6838C-PXQW-1 also features several features that make it ideal for industrial and automotive applications, such as adjustable current-limiting, programmable over-current protection and current sensing for over-current and under-voltage protection. It also has temperature sensing and diagnostics, allowing it to detect and reduce the operating temperature before reaching a dangerous level.
