Fixed Inductors have been widely used in various electronic circuit designs as they provide some advantages relatively unavailable with other components. One of the more common fixed inductors applied in electronic circuits is the ATFC-0402-12NG-T, which is built with the popular 0402 package size and features low DC resistance and high current-handling capability. Moreover, as an inductor, it is capable of storing energy in a magnetic field.

The application field of the ATFC-0402-12NG-T fixed inductor includes, but is not limited to, power management applications, telecommunications and network devices. It is also well-suited for intermediate frequency and RF circuits due to its high current-handling capability as well as for high-power DC/DC converter designs.

The working principle of the ATFC-0402-12NG-T fixed inductor is based on Faraday’s law of induction, which states that changing the magnetic field within the coil induces an electromotive force in the coil. When a direct current is passed through the coil, it induces an electro-magnetic field, and that magnetic field in turn produces a back voltage, which is proportional to the rate of change of the coil current. This resulting back voltage adds opposition to the flow of the current which is opposite to that of a resistor, but multiplies the current.

The ATFC-0402-12NG-T fixed inductor consists of a coil wound on a ferrite core. As the current through the coil increases, the inductance of the inductor increases and this affects the rate of change of current, creating a voltage drop across the inductor due to its resistance.

The voltage drop across the inductor increases as the frequency of the current increases, and it results from the inductor’s impedance, which is a measure of the opposition to the current flow. The ATFC-0402-12NG-T fixed inductor features a high current-handling capability as well as a high impedance energy storage, due to its ferrite core.

The operating temperature range of the ATFC-0402-12NG-T is -40˚C to +125˚C, with a maximum temperature rise of 30˚C at full rated current. Moreover, the maximum DC resistance is 0.91 ohms, and the standard inductance range is from 4.7nH to 1200nH. In addition, the voltage rating stands at 6.3V.

The ATFC-0402-12NG-T fixed inductor has multiple applications including providing a low DC resistance, which is important in designs of high-power converters.
