Working Principle

The ATX25Y terminal blocks from Phoenix Contact have a unique position in the Phoenix Contact power distribution system. It is designed to work with any type of wire, including stranded, solid, or extruded-core varieties.

Terminal Construction

The pins of the terminal blocks are soldered directly onto a conductive strip that is embedded in the insulating material. This strip ensures a sound contact with the pins, and provides an electrical connection from the pin to the housing. The two halves of the terminal block are then connected by a pair of nuts and bolts (the "clamping unit"), which provide a reliable connection with no additional wiring needed.

Clamping Unit

The clamping unit is housed in a split casing. This split casing has a recess on one side for the clamping unit, which is used to securely hold the two halves of the terminal block together. The clamping unit consists of two nuts and two screws, one for each half of the terminal block. A special coating is applied to the nuts and bolts to provide extra protection from corrosion.

Cable Termination

Cable termination of the ATX25Y terminal blocks is simple. The cable is inserted into the clamping unit in the recessed area of the housing. The cable is then secured using the nuts and bolts, and the screws are tightened, which creates a reliable electrical connection. The cable can then be removed by loosening the nuts and bolts.

Spring Terminal

The spring terminal is used to make electrical connections between the two halves of the terminal block. It is made from a metal spring that is inserted into the recessed area of the housing. When the two halves of the terminal block are connected, the spring contacts the pins and provides an electrical connection. The metal spring ensures a reliable connection, even if the cable or the pins have shifted.
