AWR1642BOOST Application Field and Working Principle

Texas Instruments\' AWR1642BOOST is an evaluation board designed to help developers optimize radar system and antenna performance. It uses the integrated AWR1642 dual-band mmWave sensor to offer comprehensive four-transceiver-per-band configuration, high density active antenna array support, and 64-bit software-programmable techniques.

The AWR1642BOOST is suitable for evaluating high performance radar system designs, antenna tuning, measuring up to 64 antennas with 16 transceivers, beamforming, and range measurement applications. This evaluation board is an ideal tool to boost the utilization and performance of mmWave sensors. It consists of two parts: the Radar Board and the BoosterPack.

The Radar Board is the main board, which has the AWR1642 device along with other high performance components, such as Wide Band RF front ends (WBFE). On the other hand, the BoosterPack is an add-on expansion board for the Radar Board. It adds an additional 4-transceiver modular extension port, allowing users to connect up to 8 transceivers to the Radar Board.

Radar Board Components

The Radar Board is equipped with various components. Its main component is the AWR1642 device, which acts as the central hub of the system. It is responsible for data acquisition and signal processing. The board also contains a TI-ROACH2 digital data acquisition front end, allowing users to customize their board for their application.

In addition, the board contains a Wide Band RF Front End (WBFE), which provides signal conditioning for signals received from the transceiver ports. The board also has an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), which is used for digitizing the analog signal from the WBFE. Other hardware components include voltage regulators, connectors, capacitors, and heatsinks for cooling the board.

BoosterPack Components

The BoosterPack is an additional expansion board that adds four transceiver ports to the Radar Board. It also has additional hardware components, such as connectors, RF filters, and digital logic components. These components are responsible for providing signal conditioning and controlling the transceiver ports. Additionally, the BoosterPack can be configured to connect up to 64 antennas, depending on the application.

Software

The AWR1642BOOST is supported by the mmWave Studio, a comprehensive software development environment that helps users develop, debug, and deploy applications with minimal effort. mmWave Studio can control and manage all of the hardware components on the board, including the transceivers, and manage the data acquisition and signal processing.

Working Principle

The AWR1642BOOST works in three distinct steps. First, the RADAR board uses the AWR1642 device to capture the signals from the transceiver ports. The signals are then pre-processed by the WBFE, and digitized by the ADC. Second, the data is processed with the mmWave Studio software, which can detect, analyze, and classify any targets within the range. Finally, the data is used to generate a range map, which can be used for range measurement or beamforming.

In summary, the AWR1642BOOST is an evaluation board that is designed to help developers enhance system design, optimize performance, and quickly deploy applications. With its comprehensive set of hardware components and mmWave Studio software, the AWR1642BOOST allows developers to easily test their radar system designs and quickly deploy their applications.
