The AZ23B30-G3-18 is designed to operate as a Zener array for unidirectional voltage regulation applications. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications, from local regulation of voltage in electronic equipment to battery management.

The AZ23B30-G3-18 is a dual digital Zener diode array rated to withstand up to 45 volts of reverse voltage. The wattage rating of a single diode is up to 400mW and the Zener voltage is between 5.0V and 18.0V. The AZ23B30-G3-18 has a low forward voltage drop of 0.675V and a maximum operating junction temperature of +150°C. It is composed of two digital Zener diodes in a SOT-323 package.

Working Principle

The AZ23B30-G3-18 operates on the principle of diode breakdown. When a diode is biased in reverse, the electric field between the junction of the PN - type layers causes an increasing voltage to be generated until breakdown is achieved. This is called the Zener effect, where the Zener voltage is the breakdown voltage of the diode. When the reverse voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage, the current increases exponentially until the diode is destroyed.

The AZ23B30-G3-18 operates by channeling the current across its two diodes in order to create a low-voltage drop, thus reducing the total voltage. The two diodes in the AZ23B30-G3-18 are connected in series to form what is known as a Zener diode array. This enables it to maintain a consistent voltage output in the presence of varying input voltage levels.
