Application Field
The AZ23C47-HE3-08 is a Zener diode array. Zener diodes, or avalanche breakdown diodes, are designed to allow voltage to flow in one direction and drop to a certain voltage level, known as the Zener voltage. Zener diodes have a wide range of applications, ranging from voltage regulation in circuits such as computer power supplies, stabilizers, and voltage references, as well as more advanced uses such as avalanche photodetectors and high-speed switching. This particular array of Zener diodes is used in a variety of applications, including opto-isolators, voltage clamping, inverters, and overvoltage protection, due to its exceptionally high voltage rating and low reverse leakage current. It is also ideal for providing a low-cost solution for protecting sensitive circuits against high-energy transients, or voltage spikes.
Working Principle
When forward biased, the structure of the AZ23C47-HE3-08 has a Vzk equal to 45 volts. This means that the diode will remain nonconductive until the voltage applied to it reaches the limits of that voltage. When it does, the current flowing through the diode will exceed the value specified on the datasheet, causing the diode to become operational. In this state, the voltage across the diode is limited to a certain level, known as the Zener voltage. As long as the voltage across the diode does not exceed the Zener voltage, current will continue to flow through the diode, regardless of the direction of the applied voltage. This enables the diode array to provide a voltage drop that is very close to the Zener voltage, which can be used for a wide range of applications such as voltage regulation, overvoltage protection, and high-speed switching.
