AZ34063UP-E1 Application Field and Working Principle

AZ34063UP-E1 is a high performance DC-DC switching regulator designed for efficiently converting a 3.3V input to lower or higher output voltages. This DC-DC regulator offers a wide input voltage range, high efficiency, and numerous features including adjustable switching frequency, pulse-by-pulse current limit, overload protection, and a wide range of output voltages up to 24V. AZ34063UP-E1 regulators are well suited for a variety of end applications including millimeter wave radio systems, wireless infrastructure, and industrial automation products.The AZ34063UP-E1 switching regulator operates with a fixed frequency synchronous pulse-width modulation (PWM) architecture. The switching frequency is fixed at 1.6 MHz, with typical efficiencies up to 95%. A step-down regulator operates by converting the input voltage to a desired output voltage by cycling a switch at a controlled frequency. The input voltage is monitored by the regulator, and when it is determined that the input voltage is greater than the output voltage, the switch is activated, allowing current to flow from the input to the output. In addition, the current limit of the regulator is adjusted and monitored to ensure that the maximum current limit set by the designer is never exceeded.The AZ34063UP-E1 switching regulator utilizes adaptive on-time control to achieve greater efficiency and tighter output voltage regulation. This adaptive on-time control also ensures that the maximum temperature ratings for the chip can be met by reducing the time the switch is activated, thus reducing the power dissipation of the regulator.
