PTC Resettable Fuses, commonly known as polyfuse, are made up of a ceramic body with electrodes, usually two for higher current ratings, and a polymer material located in between the electrodes. The polymer has a high resistance at room temperature, which results in a low current flow. When a current goes through the fuse and exceeds the preset current limit, the resistance of the polymer changes abruptly and the fuse reacts. This reaction causes the current flow to be restricted and the high temperature generated will heat up the polymer causing a change in its structure as well as its resistance. As the temperature reduces, the resistance of the polymer also reverts to its original value.
