Working Principle of BCM5346KPB
The BCM5346KPB is a highly integrated device that enables advanced Layer-2 switching features. It includes a 32-bit MIPS CPU, a non-blocking 8-port high density switch engine, and an integrated RISC-based network security processor. The CPU provides the control functions necessary to support layer-2 switching, and the switch engine provides the packet forwarding logic necessary for full layer-2 switching. The security processor supports a robust suite of security protocols.
The BCM5346KPB supports up to five tri-speed 802.3 Ethernet ports. The ports are automatically determined when starting up, and the settings can be customized for each port. Each port can be configured for 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1000 Mbps speeds. The ports come with various features, such as Auto-MDIX, Flow Control, IEEE 802.1ag QoS, and 802.3x Flow Control.
In order to enable advanced features, such as VLANs and link aggregation, the BCM5346KPB utilizes an integrated switching fabric. The switching fabric provides a dedicated communication path between the CPU and the ports. This allows for efficient packet forwarding and frame transmission.
The BCM5346KPB supports a wide range of Network Protocols, such as IPv4, IPv6, ARP, DHCP, PPPoE, SNMP, and IGMP. It also supports an array of advanced features, such as port-mirroring, Switch stacking, and Mini-Jumbo frames (up to 9K bytes).
