BD2802GU-E2 is a kind of power management integrated circuit (PMIC) – LED drivers which are specially designed for powering 1–to–4ch single–color LEDs. It is made up of two circuits: the current input circuit, and the current output circuit. The input circuit is designed based on the bidirectional switch circuit, while the output circuit is a novel design optimized for driving multiple channels of single–color LEDs. It has built–in safe–operating area (SOA) limiters, as well as redundant current monitoring and controlling circuits.

BD2802GU-E2 is mainly used for driving and controlling 1–to–4ch single–color LEDs that require a constant current and voltage input. Thanks to its built–in safe–operating area (SOA) limiters, it is suitable for applications that require active brightness or color controls. It supports 1–to–4ch power–save/brightness time–setting/dimming/current depth control/turn–on/turn–off cyclic operations. Its quick–startup feature enables immediate illumination with no lag time. The typical startup time is about 50ms at ambient temperature. Since to its wide dimmable range, it can help users to achieve 1/64 minimum brightness at a maximum current of 350mA, which fully meets the requirements of LED displays and indicators in many consumer electronics.
Working Principle of BD2802GU-E2
The BD2802GU-E2 mainly works in two stages: the input stage and the output stage. Firstly, in the input stage, the controller detects the voltage of the DC/DC converter output. If it falls below UVLO, the controller turns off the MOSFETs to protect the LED driver and the LED string. If the voltage is higher than UVLO, the controller turns on the MOSFETs. The LED string will be activated and the LED current flows through the LED string.
Secondly, in the output stage, the BD2802GU-E2 is equipped with several fixed current nonlinear feedback modules, each of which provides a different current output to the LED string. The output current of the LED can be finely adjusted by changing the voltage of the output port. When the voltage of the output port is higher than the fixed voltage, the LED string will start to be activated and the current output to the LED string will reach the set level.
In addition, the integrated SOA limiters protect the device from current overshoot and voltage fluctuation. With the built–in multiple clock cycle functions, users can adjust the brightness and frequency of the LED string with the simple press of a button. Moreover, the quick–startup function ensures that the LED string can be rapidly turned on with no lag time. This makes it suitable for applications with low power consumption and rapid changes in illumination.
