The Infineon Technologies BD4948G-TR is a Supervisors peripheral monitor integrated circuit (“PMIC”) designed to provide power management and monitor functions for microcontrollers, application processors, memory and other integrated circuits. The BD4948G-TR is a 4-Volt to 5.25-Volt powered Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) compatible device that contains multiple general-purpose monitors, a supervisory circuitry and a reset output. The BD4948G-TR is designed to be an interface between a host processor and various circuits that require power management and monitoring.

TheBD4948G-TR provides active current monitoring, under-voltage (UV) /over-voltage (OV) sense, brown-out detect and power-on-reset (POR) functions. The part also includes a programmable timer (TIMER) which can be triggered by a digital input or an alternating current (AC) signal. It also provides integrated protection from brown-out and over-voltage conditions, as well as reset control logic for isolated systems.

The active current monitoring feature of the BD4948G-TR enables the system designer to monitor load current in order to detect potential over current issues. When overloaded or abnormal operation occurs, i.e., over-voltage, under-voltage and/or an overload, the device will reset the connected processor/IC. The protection threshold can be set by an external voltage applied to the sense pin.

The BD4948G-TR is also capable of providing a reset signal to the host processor/IC when various system events occur. These events include power up, brown-out, over-voltage and under-voltage conditions. The reset signal is triggered when a preset threshold is set by an adjustable external voltage applied to the UV/OV pins. The reset signal is also synchronised with an external oscillator.

The BD4948G-TR also comes with a programmable timer (TIMER) feature. This feature can be programmed to generate a signal based on a preconfigured time, and can be triggered by a digital input or an AC signal. The TIMER is used to generate a signal when system events, thus preventing unwanted reset signals from occurring. The TIMER can be configured to generate a signal from 1ms to 1.2s and is accurate to within ± 2%.

The BD4948G-TR further includes protection from brown-out and over-voltage conditions. This is implemented by using a weak pull-up or pull-down voltage applied to the reset pin, depending on the event that occurred. When a preset threshold is set, a interrupt is sent to the host processor to advise the system the new event and to reset accordingly. The reset signal is aligned with an external oscillator.
