The BD5244FVE-TR is a Positive Voltage Supervisory and Reset IC belonging to the family of PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuits). Working Principle

The BD5244FVE-TR uses an open drain output transistor to detect excessive (+ or -) voltage. When the voltage exceeds its preset threshold (3.3V to 5V) the device changes its output from high impedance state to low impedance state, i.e. it outputs a reset signal. This reset signal is active low, meaning that when the device is reset, the output (RESET /SET) will be logic high (0 V). The reset duration is adjustable with external Rt and Ct, and can be set to any value from 1ms to 7.4ms depending on the values of the components.

The BD5244FVE-TR requires an external capacitor for operation, which provides the following functions: an internal oscillator is activated by the charging and discharging of this capacitor, and the discharging of this capacitor sets the reset level of the device. In addition, the device also has an internal voltage threshold comparison circuit which can be programmed to detect a voltage of between 3.3V and 5.0V. The internal circuit has an open drain output, which can be connected to the active low reset /set pin.

The BD5244FVE-TR also has some added benefits like a built-in watchdog timer, power-on reset, thermal shutdown and over voltage protection.
