BD8313HFN-TR Application Field and Working Principle
The BD8313HFN-TR is a single N-channel MOSFET controller used for DC-DC step-down switch regulators. It is specially designed to operate in a wide operating environment from a 2.2V to 8V input voltage range and an output voltage range from 0.6V to 4.3V. This controller offers high efficiency of up to 90% and fast transient responses to load current. With its advanced topology, the BD8313HFN-TR offers excellent frequency/efficiency/stability tradeoff and is suitable for applications ranging from portable electronics to multimedia players.
The BD8313HFN-TR adopts a simple single-ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC) topology which operates with only one power switch and can adjust the output voltage with a single voltage reference. The converter has two main operating modes, discontinuous mode and continuous mode, depending on the load current. This controller is designed to automatically transition between these modes.
At light load, the BD8313HFN-TR operates in discontinuous mode. In this mode, the switch is turned off after the magnetizing current is finished, due to the decay of current in the inductor. The energized output capacitor supplies the output voltage and the cycle repeats. This operating mode is most efficient at light to medium load conditions.
At heavier loads, the BD8313HFN-TR starts to transition to continous mode. In this mode, the switch is not turned off until the current in the inductor reaches zero, due to the constant load current and the output current. In continuous mode, the cycle will repeat with the switch being on more of the time amid high peak currents. This mode is more efficient with higher load currents.
The BD8313HFN-TR offers protection against overtemperature, overvoltage, overcurrent and undervoltage, along with the following key features:
