BD9483F-GE2 is a PMIC - LED Driver that provides support to Visual Communication (VC) and Portable Information & Communication (PIC) audio systems. The device has been designed to provide a bridge between the host system and the LED driver for low-power applications. Through its dual-mode switching architecture, this device enables its operation in both Bang-Bang (BB) mode and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode. This feature provides improved power efficiency, better LED efficiency, and improved LED brightness.
The main features of the BD9483F-GE2 are its capabilities of driving two strings of LEDs, providing regulated output current and output voltage, which is adjustable from 0.45 V to 3.3 V. The device has built-in protection functions that protect the device from overcurrent, overvoltage, and excessive power dissipation. The device also has power-saving mode and an automatic draining logic to prevent unnecessary power dissipation.
The working principle of the device is simple and can easily be understood. It consists of two modes. The first mode is the Bang-Bang mode, which is based on a hysteretic control system. In this mode, the internal comparator inside the device monitors the voltage at the output and adjusts duty cycle in response to the monitored voltage. When the output voltage reaches the upper threshold, duty cycle decreases and when the output voltage reaches the lower threshold it increases. This provides a smooth transfer of current to the load.
The second mode is the PWM mode in which the internal comparator monitors and adjusts the pulse width of the driving pulse. By using the pulse width and the current feedback the device is able to maintain the output current and voltage within predetermined limits. This ensures that the output current and voltage will not exceed their rated values.
