Lamps - Cold Cathode Fluorescent (CCFL) & UV provide a powerful lighting option especially in areas where display lighting is needed, such as in back-lit display cases, laboratories, electronic signage and architectural lighting. The BF375-20B is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) that uses Ultra-Violet (UV) radiation to create visible light.
A CCFL is a fluorescent lamp made of glass or plastic tubing, usually 6 to 10 mm in diameter, filled with an inert gas, such as argon, at a pressure of 0.25 to 1.4 atmospheres. Inside the tube is a cathode, or filament, that emits electrons when heated by a filament starter circuit. These electrons collide with atoms of the gas, creating a plasma due to collisions between particles. The plasma then emits ultraviolet light, a type of radiation that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
In order to create visible light, a phosphor coating is applied to the inside of the CCFL container. This coating absorbs the ultraviolet light emitted from the gas discharge and transforms it into visible light radiation. This visible light is usually emitted in shades of white, although other colors are also available. This process generally takes milliseconds and allows for the efficient and effective production of visible light.
The BF375-20B is a CCFL specifically designed for the display lighting market and is especially suitable for back lit displays. The product features an integrated starter circuit which helps to eliminate flickering and darkening, as well as a reliable ignition and operation. The phosphor coating inside the tube absorbs this ultraviolet light and transforms it into visible light radiation.
