Reed relays are relay switches which use a magnetic contact to transfer the signals with a single coil. The reed relay is composed of two parts, a reed switch and an electromagnet. Therefore, it works together with electromagnetic induction: When the charge current goes through the coil, it will cause a temporary magnetism, so that the magnetic needle inside the reed switch is attracted to the middle of two contacts, and the contact is temporarily closed. When the current stops, the magnetic field disappears and the contact opens again. BFM-1C-12 reed relays belongs to this type of relays and among the most popular in the international market.

When a reed relay is used, this device will enter a high frequency, insulated, low resistance, low power transmission mode. Compared with traditional electromagnetic relays, the advantages of reed relays are obvious. The biggest advantage is inherent in the nature of its contact mechanism. That is, the switch has a lower contact resistance, the maximum contact resistance is nearly 0 ohm, so it can minimize signal attenuation, and improve the transfer rate of the relay.

In addition, the contact gap of the reed relay is also very small (with a gap of 0.0001 to 0.0005 mm). This gap ensures that the contact of the reed relay is stable and reliable due to the small air gap. Storage life is significantly improved with a more compact size. Hence, the BFM-1C-12 reed relay has been widely employed in a variety of circuit switching applications due to its small size, high reliability and low contact resistance.

From the design aspects of BFM-1C-12 reed relay, a bias magnet will be employed for the mechanism. The magnet on the reed relay will form a magnetic field to support the current flow in the latching coil. When the current flow appears, the reed switch will be actuated and the contacts will be closed. Due to the magnetic field formation, the current will be maximized and the contact resistance will be minimized. This has been one of the main reasons why BFM-1C-12 reed relay have been so popular in the electronics markets.

The BFM-1C-12 reed relay has been broadly applied in various areas. It is mostly utilized in medical, automotive, aerospace, industrial and military applications. Since there is an increase demand for rapid data switching, the BFM-1C-12 reed relay has been widely employed in high speed data acquisition, equipment control, analog and digital circuit processing, signal transmission, and temperature control systems. In particular, it is often used in aircraft avionics and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to switch a variety of signals in the presence of high levels of interference.

In terms of application field, BFM-1C-12 reed relay is mostly suitable for controlling low power circuits, below 50 V and 0.5 A. With the advantages of low contact resistance, fast data transmission, good signal quality and vibration/temperature resilience, this type of reed relays are mutually applicable with logic circuit, power circuit and switching electrical circuit. Moreover, due to its compact size, the use of reed relays can greatly reduce space or board layout requirement for an application.

In conclusion, BFM-1C-12 reed relays are important components in the today’s electronics industry. They offer many electrical advantages, including high switching speed, fast response, low contact resistance and low power consumption. The BFM-1C-12 reed relays are suitable for high speed data acquisition, equipment control, analog and digital circuit processing, signal transmission, and temperature control systems. With its ease of usage and wide applicability, BFM-1C-12 reed relays have become a popular choice for various applications.
