BLC2021-BK-R Optoelectronics

The BLC2021-BK-R is an LCD (liquid crystal display) module developed by Osram. It is ideal for low-power applications such as consumer electronics, test and measurement instruments, process control instruments and embedded systems.

The BLC2021-BK-R module is designed to display two lines of 20 characters. The display is made up of two rows of eight character-field modules, each of which can be used to show an 8-character line of text. The display is integrated with a controller IC, display driver IC and LCD glass, into a single module.

The BLC2021-BK-R module uses the industry-standard HD44780U controller. This controller has an internal font ROM that offers a wide selection of character sets and graphics. It also allows for user-definable characters (UDCs). The module also includes a high-speed memory shared by the controller and the display driver IC.

The display has a wide viewing angle, ensuring that the user can easily read the data. The display operates at temperatures between 0°C and 50°C and is suitable for operating under both low and high environmental temperatures.

The module features an industry-standard 16pin interface, allowing easy connection to an external controller. The module also includes a power LED and a power supply terminal.

The working principle of the BLC2021-BK-R is based on Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs). LCDs are made up of two plates of glass held together in a sealed container. Between the two plates are thin liquid crystals sandwiched between transparent electrodes. When voltage is applied across the two electrodes, the liquid crystals align themselves in a particular direction, which allows light to pass through the LCD.

The BLC2021-BK-R module utilizes a pulse width modulation technique to control the brightness of the display. A waveform generator produces a square waveform, which is fed to the controller. This waveform is the base wave, and it is used to change the voltage level applied across the electrodes. Through this technique, the waveform generator can modify the waveform from low (off) to high (light) and vice versa, thus controlling the brightness of the display.

The BLC2021-BK-R module is ideal for applications that require low-power consumption and good contrast. It is also suitable for environments with high temperature and humidity variations. The module is highly durable and reliable and offers excellent readability even in low light conditions.
