The BM2P033 is a type of PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) in the family of AC/DC converters and offline switchers. The working principle of the BM2P033 is based on the principles of buck converters and integrated circuitry. Then, the output of the circuit converts the regulated voltage into a consistent, regulated DC voltage by controlling two power switches using the internal circuitry – either in switching or phase-shift mode.
In phase-shift mode, the two power switches are opened and closed in different times by controlling the duty cycle of the pulse width modulation (PWM). This creates a phase-shift between the output and input voltage, which increases the power conversion efficiency. In switching mode, the two power switches are opened and closed simultaneously, creating a step change in the output voltage.
Finally, the power is monitored by the on-chip current sensing circuit to ensure the correct current level is provided to the output and that any overloading is prevented. The output is then supplied to the device requiring the regulated voltage either through an external linear regulator or a switching regulator.
