Optical Sensors - Phototransistors include BPV11. BPV11 is a 4 pin phototransistor applied in receiver applications. It has a wide range of working and application field. This article takes a brief look at BPV11 application fields and working principle.
BPV11 belongs to silicon phototransistors. It is made up of round small flat package covered with optical resin. BPV11 works in a voltage range of 30 volts and it offers high speed response. The pin configuration of BPV11 is as follows. The emitter pin is at the left side of the package and it is connected to the base. The base pin is connected to the collector and the collector pin is connected to the emitter.
The main application fields of BPV11 are optical signal-transmission, lightbeam control, lap and optical display techniques, TV signal control, optical scanning and sequencing. Moreover, BPV11 can be used for detection of low intensity light signals and in sensing applications requiring both high speed and low intensity. BPV11 also finds application in opto-isolators as it is sensitive to different light sources.
The working principle of BPV11 is simple. When a light beam is incident on the BPV11, the photocurrent that is produced by the nature of the semiconductor material modulates the current flowing through the base emitter junction. This in turn modulates the collector current of the device and then the output voltage of the BPV11 is obtained. The output voltage is proportional to the intensity of the incident light beam.
The BPV11 is preferred because it has high speed response, wide voltage range, low current consumption, low noise, and low cost. It is also compatible with many electronic systems such as line receivers, optical scanner, and light modulators. Also, BPV11 is tolerant to wide wavelength and temperature ranges as well as other external sources of interference.
In conclusion, the BPV11 phototransistor offers a wide array of applications and a simple working principle. It is a cost-effective device with excellent response time, low current consumption, and many other features. BPV11 finds application in diverse electronic systems such as TV signal control, line receivers, optical scanner, light modulators and many more devices.
