The BQ24103EVM is a high-voltage, integrated Power Management and Battery Charging IC, which combines a power path management, a linear battery charger, and a DC/DC synchronous buck converter in a single chip. It provides a complete Power Management solution for systems running on rechargeable battery sources such as 6-cell Li-Ion/ Li-Polymer and 3-cell LiFePO4 chemistries while also providing a stable 5V output for digital loads. The BQ24103EVM supports charge currents up to 3A and an input voltage range from 4.4V to 20V, with a wide input voltage range of 6V to 20V. This feature prevents system reset when the input shuts down for only a few seconds. The BQ24103EVM includes several protection features such as overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, reverse current, thermal protection, ultrasound shutdown and short circuit protection. In terms of working principle, the BQ24103EVM is a single-chip solution that integrates a battery charger, a power path management, and a DC/DC synchronous buck converter in one device. Its working principle starts with the power path management, which works to control the power path between the battery and the loads. The device utilizes two charge modes - a trickle charge mode for light loads and a main charge mode for heavier loads. In addition, the charge current can be programmed up to 3A for fast charging. The device also includes an input voltage feature which allows the input voltage to be adjusted to support the required output voltage.
The BQ24103EVM also includes a synchronous buck converter for regulated 5V outputs.
