The BQ24751EVM evaluation module (EVM) is a laboratory tool used to evaluate the integrated circuit (IC) BQ24751. This evaluation module allows users to quickly evaluate circuit operation, validate operation of the IC under their particular application, and design solutions around the IC. It is a great tool to aid in high-volume design and production of many different types of product.The EVM includes the completed BQ24751 circuit, plus a range of input and monitoring options, such as a potentiometer, switch, indicators, and a display. It thereby provides flexibility to the user for testing and verifying various parameters associated with the BQ24751 IC, as well as their application with the BQ24751. The IC itself is a regulated 12, 15, or 20V buck-boost 1:2A step-down DC/DC controller with a high-accuracy battery charger to support single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) applications. The BQ24751 is designed to provide a rugged; flexible; and high-performance step-down DC/DC controller; capable of switching up to 2A; with a maximum input voltage of 20V.This IC provides a range of features aimed at making the designers life easier. These features include wide input voltage range; output current monitoring; power good; and programmable “over temperature” thresholds. Both open-drain and P-MOSFET switches can be used for the gate drive with slower and faster falling edges. Programmable safety features, such as over-current protection (OCP) with selectable hysteretic current threshold, over-voltage protection (OVP) and under-voltage protection (UVP), and thermal overload protection (TOT) are all available.One great feature of the IC is its Integrated COT Controller, which helps reduce the component count and promote efficient converter designs. This controller supports a wide input voltage range of 6 to 20V, and provides an automatic selection of the output voltage depending on the input and load conditions. Furthermore, the IC includes a programmable input voltage regulation loop, as well as a high accuracy constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charging architecture, allowing for constant current and constant voltage fast charging of a wide range of single-cell lithium batteries. Using the EVM, users can quickly evaluate circuit operation, validate operation of the IC under their application, and design solutions around the IC. It allows users to configure the different settings available on the IC, and to observe the results of the various conditions applied to it.Additional software available through Texas Instruments’ software library enables the user to set up control parameters and monitor performance of the IC in either English or metric units. By providing detailed performance statistics and diagnostic data, this software allows the user to optimize the IC performance and maximize the power efficiencies.The BQ24751EVM is an excellent tool for quick and easy testing of the IC and supporting their particular application. With its integrated range of features and added software, users can maximize their development speed, reduce time to market, and minimize component costs, enabling quicker product design development and review for customers.
