Integrated circuit device BQ27505YZGT-J1 (hereinafter referred to as BQ27505) is a dedicated lithium-ion battery protection and management integrated circuit (PMIC - Battery Management) designed by Texas Instruments. This device is specifically designed for two-cell supercapacitor batteries and includes built-in N-channel MOSFET switches that can be used to prevent overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature conditions in battery cells.

The operating principle of BQ27505 is simple and straightforward. Internal analog and logic circuits monitor the voltage of the two cells in parallel and act as overvoltage and overcurrent protection switches. When the voltage across any of the cells exceeds the set limit of 4.75V, the N-channel MOSFET switch connected to that cell is Disabled automatically. The same holds true for overcurrent and overtemperature conditions. When the current draw from the cell is more than the preset limit of 2A, the N-channel MOSFET switch is Disabled automatically. Similarly, when the temperature of the cell exceeds the preset limit of 55°C, the N-channel MOSFET switch is Disabled automatically.
