The BQ78PL114RGZR is a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) designed for battery management applications. It is designed to integrate multiple power supplies, monitor and control battery charging, supply power to system circuits, and manage the safety of the connected battery and the associated system. The BQ78PL114RGZR integrates the Analog and Digital Control Sub-System (ADCS) to manage the various power supplies, Status and Control Sub-System (SCS) to process signals from various on-chip circuitry and external sensors, and Telemetry Sub-System (TMS) to facilitate communication through BQBus (digital bus architecture) and SMBus between the device and the host processor, as well as over-the-air (OTA) transmission for remote monitoring and control. The BQ78PL114RGZR also features a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and Analog GPIO which provides additional communication channels for the device to be connected.

The BQ78PL114RGZR is designed to operate over a wide temperature range, from -40°C to 125°C. It features an on-chip temperature sensor as well as external temperature sensor support, allowing the device to monitor and control the battery charging temperature. The device adopts an advanced Power Path Management technology to maximize performance, provide direction current sharing capability, and ensure safe charging and discharging of the battery. Additionally, the BQ78PL114RGZR uses Linear Power Preservation and Voltage Splitting techniques to reduce power consumption, with two separate power domains for system power supply and battery charging. It also incorporates various protection features to safeguard the system from various hazards. The device has 8 Analog Channel Multiplexer Multiplexer (ACM) to monitor the status of the battery and system and send the data to the host processor for necessary action.
