A bridge rectifier is an electrical component that converts alternating current, or AC, into direct current, or DC. This type of rectifier is a useful component for any electrical system that requires an input with only DC voltages, such as computers and other electronic devices. A bridge rectifier utilizes four diodes as a part of its operation. Diodes are simple electrical components that allow current to pass through in one direction, and block it in the other direction. A bridge rectifier will commonly appear in the shape of a rectangular box, with four connections.
