Working Principle
The BZD27C33PHRFG is a single Zener diode that utilizes the principle of a reverse-biased PN junction to references a precise voltage. When the diode is forward biased, the current flowing through the junction is limited due to the diode’s relatively low forward resistance. Once the forward voltage reaches a certain level, it reaches the Zener voltage or breakdown point, causing the current to dramatically increase as the voltage remains at a constant level.
The difference in current flow between the Zener diode’s forward and reverse bias results in its voltage regulation ability. In the forward bias condition, the diode will approximately track the source voltage until it reaches the Zener voltage and in the reverse bias condition it will hold the voltage level just below the breakdown level. This is because the voltage across the diode is mainly determined by the power supply and the current in the bias condition is not substantially affected by the change in voltage.
