C22M10S is an electrical specialty fuse used in low-voltage systems. It is designed for current protection in installations with a nominal operating voltage of less than 250VDC or 600VAC. The C22M10S fuse applies a series arc tracking technology, making it a reliable and robust low-voltage fuse capable of withstanding over-voltage and withstands sudden and significant increases in current. The C22M10S working principle involves both mechanical and thermal components. Upon sensing a rise in current, the C22M10S fuse starts to open up as a small solenoid plunger is activated pushing the contact apart. The plunger also takes advantage of the motor effect created in an inductive circuit, which increases the amount of energy released during opening.

Once the contacts are opened, the energy stored in the iron core is released, resulting in an arc of electric current. This arc is constantly cooled by a protective arc discharge that takes place as the current decreases. Eventually, the arc will quench and the fuse will return back to its original position, thus resetting the system.

The C22MS fuse also has a thermal element, allowing it to detect rises in temperature that may result from prolonged current surges. This thermal element is made out of a bimetallic strip which is heated up when the temperature rises. The heating up deforms the strip, and this allows for a mechanical movement which, in turn, opens up the fuse.
