Film Capacitors

Film capacitors, also known as plastic film capacitors, are modern, long-lasting, relatively low-voltage capacitor types typically used to help control AC line voltage, and to smooth and filter DC power supplies. While they are one of the most popular capacitors on the market as of late, film capacitors also marked a substantial improvement when compared to their counterparts in terms of their stability, the fulfillment of environmental requirements, and the reliability of their insulation.

The C4GADUB4100AA4J is a part of the GADU series of plastic film capacitors from KEMET Electronics Corporation. The dielectric used is polypropylene, a polyester based plastic film, which allows this capacitor to be used as a part of a wide range of AC Line Filters and Power Supply applications in the frequency range up to 50kHz. The C4GADUB4100AA4J is designed for application in EMI/ RFI applications such as AC power line filters in the 200VAC - 250VAC application. It is used to attenuate conducted interference in the frequency range up to 50kHz in equipment. Plastic film capacitors, unlike other types of capacitors, have very low electrical losses that make them ideal for RFI applications. In basic terms, a capacitor works by holding an electric charge between two conducting surfaces.
