C52S application field and working principle

Thyristors, commonly referred to as Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) or gate turn-off thyristor (GTO) are semiconductor electronic devices which apply the three-layer or four-layer systems of positive and negative charges semiconductor layers to provide a combination of switching and voltage regulation. Among the thyristors, the C52S, developed by Littelfuse, is an advanced four-layer thyristor, which is widely used for various applications. The C52S, a four-pin device, is a form of SCR, which works as an AC switch, circuit breaker, and/or uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

The C52S is mostly employed in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with AC or DC power ratings up to 100A/800V.
