The CA21116020 acts as a voltage regulator to keep the output voltage at a certain level even in the face of varying input voltage. The CA21116020 is basically a switch which is opened and closed very quickly. When the switch is in the closed position, a small but constant electrical current passes through the circuit. Half of the current is supplied by the input power source and the other half is redirected back towards the power source to regulate the output voltage.The actual voltage to be regulated depends on the current that flows through the CA21116020, which in turn is controlled by the pulses that determine the opening and closing of the switch.
