As a trademark of ON Semiconductor, CA3101E28-1P is an advanced monolithic analog switch IC with enhanced dynamic and static performance that outpaces industry standards.This advanced analog switch features an extended temperature range from -40° C to +125° C, an extremely low ON-resistance (typical Ron = 0.4 Ω) with low charge injection and fast switching times (tON/tOFF = 15 ns/1 ms). The high signal-to-noise performance of the switch, lower than -80 dB for instruments with fast transients, enables the analog switch to be utilized in a wide variety of signal conditioning applications.The extended temperature range and inherently low ON resistance of the switch makes it ideal for applications in the telecom, broadcast, and medical sectors. The smooth, low-glitch, low-charge injection signal switching characteristics of the CA3101E28-1P makes it ideal for precision signal conditioning applications where jitter must be minimized.The CA3101E28-1P can be used in many different applications. It can be used as a data selector/multiplexer, as a signal switcher, to form a differential amplifier, and as an HBRA or reed relay replacement. Data selector/multiplexer applications use the onboard logic inputs provided for data selection control when 3-state operational capabilities are desired. For switcher applications, either single-ended or differential analog signal switching is possible depending on the user’s particular architecture. The onboard logic inputs also enable various operating modes for a great deal of flexibility.The CA3101E28-1P features 4-channel, low-ON-resistance, high-bandwidth analog switches. Built on a CMOS process, each channel operates with an off-state leakage current of 10 nA typical and an ON-state-resistance of 0.4 Ω typical. It can switch up to ±17 V signals with no glitch on the logic to data transition. It operates from a 4.5 V to 12 V single supply voltage range and is optimally configured for single-ended signal switching applications.The basic principle behind the CA3101E28-1P is that it takes advantage of the relationship between the input logic signal and the distortion-free analog switch. This is done through the use of an active pull-up circuit. When the logic control signal is high, the internal FET is activated causing the analog switch to turn on. When the logic control signal is low, the FET is deactivated resulting in the switch turning off. The chip uses an integrated high-bandwidth, low-RON architecture, allowing the analog switch to switch extremely fast with low-output distortion. This allows the switch to be used in a variety of applications where signal accuracy, fast-switching, and low distortion are required. Additionally, the package offers very low heat dissipation and power consumption due its high-impedance FET switch architecture. This makes it ideal for portable and wireless device applications. The CA3101E28-1P is thus an ideal analog switch for a wide variety of applications. Not only is it capable of switching either single-ended or differential signals with low-distortion, but also with very low charge injection which allows for low-glitch and jitter-free switching. Its extended-temperature range and inherently low ON-resistance provide reliable performance for any application needing these attributes. It is ideal for telecom, broadcast, and medical applications where precision and low distortion are key. It is also tailored for portable and wireless device applications due to its very low power consumption and heat dissipation.
