CAN0005WP is a polymeric Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) designed for installation in both AC and DC circuits. It is predominantly used for protecting delicate electronic cards and wires from high transient voltage surges and electrical noise generated by high speed data lines, photodiodes and high-voltage power supplies. The device can be used in a variety of applications, from automotive and industrial control, to telecommunications and audio visual.
The basic working principle behind CAN0005WP lies in its ability to absorb transient voltage surges before they reach dangerous levels, guarding your electrical devices from damage or disruption. As the surge exceeds the device’s nominal clamping voltage, an internal positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heater is activated. This causes the device to rapidly draw additional power to the extent of momentarily compressing the white PTC thermistor material and increasing its resistance to suppress the excess current flow. The maximum current output of the device is limited to a preset value, allowing it to absorb the extra energy safely without damage.
In addition to its surge protection capabilities, CAN0005WP also offers protection against inductive, capacitive and electrostatic discharge transients. The device is also able to provide protection for high speed circuits, up to 4 GHz, meaning that it can protect your more delicate electronics against high frequencies and and interference. It operates between a wide temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, enhances reliability by suppressing false triggering, and offers typical clamping ratings from 6V to 28V with a maximum allowed voltage of 80Vrms.
