CAT1320YI-30-T3 is a high performance supply supervisor device combining Brown-out, Watchdog, and Power-on Reset functions into a single 4mm×4mm QFN package. It provides a reset output after Brown-out and Watchdog events, as well as a manual reset input feature.

The CAT1320YI-30-T3 supervises one digital supply (VDA) and one linear supply (VAA). It operates with VDA supplies from 1.8 V to 5.5 V and VAA supplies from 1.4 V to 6.5 V. The CAT1320YI-30-T3 allows precision adjustment of the brownout and watchdog thresholds completely independent from VAA, using external resistors. An additional supply (VRA) is used as a reference for comparator input.

The CAT1320YI-30-T3 can detect faults on the VDA and VAA supplies. In case a brown-out or a watchdog event is detected, the CAT1320YI-30-T3 outputs a reset pulse once the unregulated supply voltage has fallen below the brown-out detection threshold or a watchdog timeout has occurred, whichever comes first.

The CAT1320YI-30-T3 can detect any faults that cause a drop in voltage in either the VAA or VDA supply, or when the VDA voltage exceeds an upper voltage limit. This covers a very wide range of events including short circuits, open circuits, brown-outs and power-on in-rush current. The CAT1320YI-30-T3 can also detect a voltage transgression on its VAA supply caused by an over-voltage event.

An integrated watchdog timer is provided to detect faults that cause the microcontroller to back off its normal operating frequency, or to become unresponsive. The watchdog can be enabled by using either an active-low or active-high transistor connected to the reset line of the microcontroller. The watchdog timer acts as a safety watchdog for low-end MCU systems.

The CAT1320YI-30-T3 also provides an adjustable power-on reset (POR) output, which is automatically activated as the VAA voltage passes through the POR detection threshold. This allows a system to power-up quickly and safely, by pre-configuring a low activation voltage, and then increasing the voltage slowly to the operating voltage, while keeping the power-on reset active. The CAT1320YI-30-T3 also provides a manual reset input (MRT) which can be used to reset the system manually. The manual reset input supports both active-low and active-high logic.

The CAT1320YI-30-T3 is designed for cost-sensitive applications such as consumer, automotive and industrial systems. It has a low operating current (1mA) and power-down current (10uA) to meet stringent power-consumption requirements. The CAT1320YI-30-T3 is available in a 4x4mm QFN package and is rated for the extended temperature range (-40 to +85℃).

Working Principle
