Working Principle

The CAT1641WI-42-GT3 offers users equipped with dual-stage power-on reset (POR) and voltage/temperature monitoring capabilities combined with digital fault management (DFM). When the power comes on, the CAT1641WI-42-GT3 provides a clean power on reset (POR) to the processor/system by monitoring the power rail Vin1-Vin2 and VTHP. The reset is initiated when Vin1 is below the POR threshold (1.5V). It will remain in POR until VIN1-VIN2 both are over the trip threshold VTHP and VTHN. If VIN1-VIN2 has exceeded the trip threshold, then the trip threshold will decrease when the voltage falls below VTHN. The CAT1641WI-42-GT3 also includes two thermal sensors for monitoring temperature. When either of the two temperature sensors exceeds the trip temperature threshold TTHP, the device will set a fault bit. The fault bit can be used for either system-initiated shutdowns to reduce power consumption or to provide thermal management.
