Fixed Inductors

Fixed inductors are electromechanical components which have a fixed inductance. They are widely used in power electronics circuits, and are commonly found in consumer electronic devices, such as televisions, DVD or CD players, and audio systems. One particularly popular type of fixed inductor is the CBC2518T331M.

CBC2518T331M Application Field

The CBC2518T331M fixed inductor is a radial type surface mount component, designed primarily for DC-DC converters (also known as a converter topology) in notebook computers and other applications such as AC adapters. It also finds use in consumer electronic products like charging circuits, switching power supplies, and polarity protection circuits.

The component offers a very low DC resistance and a high self-resonance frequency. In addition, it supports high-flux-density for a mounting height of 1.6mm, and its combination of isolation and stability makes it suitable for high heat environments. It also has a high linearity of inductance and current with temperature, providing better accuracy in high-temp and/or high-altitude applications.

CBC2518T331M Working Principle

The CBC2518T331M fixed inductor works on the principle of inductance, which is the ability of an electrical component to store electrical energy in a magnetic field. In a sense, a fixed inductor is like a capacitor in that it stores energy, but instead of storing energy in the form of an electrical charge, it stores energy in the form of a magnetic field.

When current passes through the inductor, the electric field induces a magnetic field. This magnetic field stores energy, and as the current passes through the inductor, the energy of the magnetic field is released. The inductor resists the changes in current, thus providing a stable output voltage.

The CBC2518T331M is designed to offer a low DC resistance, which ensures that the inductor is able to withstand higher loads while providing stable current output. Further, its high self-resonance frequency and high-flux density makes it suitable for noise filtering and signal conditioning in applications involving higher voltage levels.
