Working Principle
The CBS4504828-R utilizes a positive linear regulated converter topology. At the input side, a high frequency switching device is used to step-down the input voltage. An internal buck-mode DC-DC power switch is connected to the output of the high frequency switching device, and a counter-electromotive force is applied to the output capacitor when the switch closes. Combined with the external inductor and capacitor, a stable output voltage is provided. The variable output voltage is controlled by adjusting the internal switching frequency, and a feedback resistor is used to detect the output voltage and compare it with the reference voltage to achieve regulation.
The desired voltage is determined by connecting the feedback resistor to the VOUT and setting the desired voltage. When the output voltage is too high, the feedback voltage VFB is greater than the reference voltage VREF, and so the DC-DC power switch will close less frequently, thus reducing the output voltage. When the output voltage is too low, the feedback voltage VFB will be less than the reference voltage VREF, and so the DC-DC power switch will close more frequently, thus increasing the output voltage. On the other hand, the output current can also be controlled with the CBS4504828-R. If the constant current is set to be high, then the lost voltage across the resistor will be increased, and the duty cycle of the power switch will decrease, thus decreasing the output current.
The CBS4504828-R is a high efficiency device and its power factor can be improved by using a large filter capacitance at the output. Additionally, this device also has over-voltage and over-current protection, providing a secure and reliable power supply.
