RF Transceiver ICs are commonly used in wireless communication applications that require the transmission and reception of radio frequency (RF) signals from a variety of devices.The CC2400-RTB1 is a highly integrated RF transceiver IC for 2.4GHz Zigbee and ISM applications. It is designed to minimize the cost and complexity of implementing an RF link. It integrates the transmit, receive,baseband processor and the components necessary for the regulation of the radio frequency link.
The CC2400-RTB1 operates in the 2.4GHz ISM/SRD frequency band, allowing for both worldwide deployment and low cost of implementation. The device is designed for low-power operation and its highly integrated architecture allows for advanced wireless solutions in the Zigbee and ISM protocol standards. The device is capable of modulating signals using three different processing modes – direct modulation, coherent modulation, and non-coherent modulation.In non-coherent mode, the transmitter unit modulates a continuous wave carrier signal without the need for a reference signal from the receiver unit. In coherent mode, a reference signal is used to accurately phase-lock the transmitted signal to the received signal. The direct modulation mode does not use a reference signal, but instead directly modulates the incoming data onto the radio frequency carrier.
In addition to the carrier modulation, the device is also capable of manipulating the transmitted signal using a number of frequency agility techniques. This includes the use of frequency hopping, modulation index optimization, and wide band and narrow band (ratio) modulation. Frequency hopping is a process of rapidly changing the transmission frequency between a series of predetermined frequencies, while modulation index optimization is used to achieve optimum signal-to-noise ratio. The CC2400-RTB1 supports both wide band and narrow band (ratio) modulation, which is used to increase the range of attainable signal processing capabilities.
Finally, the CC2400-RTB1 also supports a number of other features that make it suitable for a variety of wireless communication applications. These include programmable filters to reduce interference, support for multiple output power levels, and support for optional cryptography engines.
