Diodes are an essential component of a large number of electrical and electronic devices used in a variety of applications. The CD1607-B140LF diode is a Silicon-Carbide (SiC) Schottky Barrier rectifying diode. It is single-chip designed and fabricated in 130nm SiC process technology.
CD1607-B140LF is designed to replace standard silicon switching diodes in applications where higher operating temperature, higher breakdown voltage and superior temperature coefficient are desired or where conventional diode are difficult to be used due to their limited power dissipation capabilities. It can be used in switching systems, such as frequency converters, converters for electric vehicles, motor drives and solar power systems, for rectification and low frequency switching.
Application Field
This device provides excellent performance in those applications that need wide temperature range and require high frequency switching, due to its low power dissipation and small capacitance. It features low current leakage, very low capacitance and high current load capability. It is also suitable for rectification of AC power in solar cell applications, for current sensing and rectification in motor drives, for AC/DC converters and various automotive applications, among others.
Working Principle
The working principle of a Schottky Barrier diode is based on the use of the Schottky barrier. This barrier is formed by an interface between the metal cathode of the diode and its semiconducting surface or substrate. When the diode is forward biased, the metal of the cathode forms an area of no electrical resistance (a Schottky junction) and as a result electrons can move through this area with no resistance. Conversely, when the diode is reverse-biased, no current will flow as the metal barrier is thicker and the amount of bias voltage required is higher than the amount of energy need to overcome the barrier.
CD1607-B140LF has a low capacitance, enabling it to be used for high frequency switching. It has a high breakdown voltage and low current leakage, making it suitable for applications where higher voltage and/or lower current are required. It also has an extremely low forward voltage drop, making it suitable for power conversion, efficient power dissipation and low heat production.
CD1607-B140LF can thus be used in applications where high frequency switching is required and where proper thermal management is necessary due to high thermal stress. It is the ideal choice for switching applications including AC/DC converters and solar cell rectification.
