CD4033BPW is a high performance four-bit magnitudinal comparator incorporated in CMOS technology. It is a device which can compare two 4-bit binary numbers that is applied with two sets of four input terminals and provides two corresponding outputs. It emits two outputs, one is an active "lower" which is asserted when the number in the lower order group is the lesser and an active "equal" which is asserted when the two groups are equal. A typical application circuit of CD4033BPW is as follows. Four 4-bit binary numbers are applied to terminals A1-A4 and B1-B4. The two outputs, Active Lower and Active Equal, are used to provide the two conditions "lower" and "equal". Additional external sources, such as pull-up resistors and pull-down resistors, are needed to connect to the "lower" and "equal" outputs to define the logic levels. With the help of external resistor, the power consumption is minimized and the noise immunity is improved.
