The surface-mount CD4585BNSR is a CMOS device that is used in various applications as a quad 2-input EXCLUSIVE-OR gate. It is composed of four independent gates, each of which performs the logical EXCLUSIVE-OR function. The output of each EXCLUSIVE-OR gate is active only when exactly one of the inputs is at logic level “1”; when both are at logic level “1” or when both are at logic level “0”, the output is at logic level “0”.
This IC is an improved version of the widely accepted family of EXCLUSIVE-OR gates, the CD4001 single gate, the CD4002 dual gate, and the CD4000 quad gates. Its function and pinout are in complete agreement with these devices, making the CD4585BNSR ideal for replacing the older technology. It also comes in smaller packages with fewer pins than the CD4001, CD4002 and CD4004, which reduces the circuit board area needed for the design.
