.The CD74HC40103EG4 is an advanced high speed CMOS COUNTER integrated circuit belonging to the logic - Counters, Dividers field. It is an element of the 74HC4000 family of integrated circuits from the highly renowned brand Texas Instruments. This counter is a simple one, with four individual count stages, three of which are static, allowing four bit counting in a single IC. The CD74HC40103EG4 is mainly used in counter and divider applications such as digital tachometer, frequency measurement systems, clock dividers, logic dividers and more. It can also be used as a frequency divider, digital oscillator, and time delay device. It is equipped to perform synchronous counting up to the 7th count, with the total range being 0 to 8 decimal with the 7th count getting its value from the Clock.* Additionally, it has an active LOW asynchronous reset/clear, which resets counter to zero. The clock input is active on the LOW-to-HIGH transition edge, and the pulse width must be greater than the minimum system clock pulse width.
The CD74HC40103EG4 can be powered up from the power supply voltage ranging from 2V to 6V, operating temperature from -55°C to 125°C making it ideal for industrial as well as demanding environments. It is also equipped with Schmitt Trigger action on all inputs, which makes it very reliable in erratic conditions and also increases the noise immunity even when exposed to high di/dt or dv/dt noise associated with HEAVY LOADS applications. The CD74HC40103EG4 counter counter works on the principle of CMOS logic. Basically, the outputs of the previous stages are fed back to the inputs of the subsequent stages. The Clock input is connected to the first stage and the output is coupled with the output of the third stage. Thus as soon as one clock pulse is given, the count is increased, i.e. the output voltage on the corresponding output increases with the number of clock pulses. Similarly, when the LOAD and RESET inputs are engaged, the counting is reset to zero. The fourth stage has a special function i.e. it drags the next value from the carry out of the third stage.
