The CD74HCT257M96G4 device is a dual 4-line to 16-line demultiplexer/decoder/driver that can be used in a variety of applications. It is a member of the 74HC/HCT series of digital logic ICs, providing high speed logic and excellent noise immunity. This device is used to decode one of four binary-coded inputs into 16 mutually exclusive outputs.The inputs are actively driven and are designed to be TTL compatible. The active-low inputs allow for direct connection of logic levels with no external pull-up resistors required. The outputs of the device are actively driven on the rising edge of an Enable input.This device could be classified under Logic - Signal Switches, Multiplexers, Decoders, as it performs the function of decoding facts. Working Principle:The mechanism used by this device to make the final output decisions is based on the internal logic levels. This device is basically an analog to digital converter. It takes two 4-line input signals (A and B) and converts them into a 16-bit digital output pattern. This digital pattern is then decoded using the two enable inputs (E1 and E2). The result of this decoding action is 16 mutually exclusive output signals (Q0 to Q15). When any one of the enable inputs is inactive, the outputs associated with its respective enable input become inactive.The logic levels of the binary patterns used in the decoding are detailed in the 84HC/HCT257 datasheet.The logic level of the Enable inputs (E1 and E2) must be LOW for the outputs to be active. If any one of the Enable inputs is HIGH, then the outputs associated with it will be inactive.
